Franklin Township Communities Map

Mcommunity mapembers of the Franklin Township Historical Society’s executive board have contributed a handmade map showing the location of all Franklin Township residential communities. Dana Crapo, who created the map with the assistance of David Ostheimer, described his reason for plotting out the locations of each neighborhood: “At one time Acton and Wanamaker were [the only] housing communities, and nowadays we have a lot more.” Crapo explained that approximately 130 new housing communities have been added in the township over the last 30 years, with more still being constructed. He and his wife Anne drove the roads of the township, noting the locations of the entrance and exits of many different housing additions. Many of these communities were built on the locations of pioneer farms, and some of the communities or streets still bear the names of former township residents.

The map will soon be on permanent display in the Franklin Township Civic League building. Take a look next time you stop by!
