Ash Trees at the Meeting House

Last week, we bid a sad farewell to two of the huge ash trees that have stood beside our 1871 Meeting House for over 130 years. The invasive emerald ash borer had damaged the trees beyond repair. The trees were likely planted in the 1870s to provide shade for the south-facing church windows. (We have preserved a cross-section of the larger tree, which will be on display at the Meeting House.)

The third ash tree is receiving ongoing treatment for the insects, and we hope it may stand for many years to come.
